Nineveh Academic Chair: Reclaiming Assyrian Heritage and Identity

This video details the mission and activities of the Nineveh Academic Chair, an initiative established within the University of Salamanca dedicated to preserving and promoting Assyrian linguistic, historical, and cultural heritage.

The Chair aims to counter historical marginalization and misrepresentation of Assyrian identity, which has often been reduced to a purely religious lens, by emphasizing their national and ethnic distinctiveness. Key efforts include rewriting Assyrian history from an Assyrian perspective, developing a comprehensive grammar for modern Assyrian, documenting Assyrian literature, and training new generations of Assyrian specialists through scholarships and academic programs.

The importance of private archives and intellectual agency in safeguarding this heritage is also highlighted, alongside the Chair’s commitment to organizing international conferences to disseminate research and foster collaboration.
